Is Alpha Progression Pro Worth It? Features, Pricing, and Billing
Alpha Progression Pro is worth it if you want a personalized training plan, guidance on what weight and reps to attempt, or analysis tools you will use regularly. If you already manage those decisions yourself and mainly need a workout log, Alpha Progression's permanent free version may be enough.
At standard US pricing, Pro costs $12.99 per month or $79.99 per year. Eligible new customers can try the yearly plan free for 14 days. The monthly plan does not include that trial, and subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled.
We offer a full refund on request. The steps depend on whether you subscribed through our website, the App Store, or Google Play; each route is explained below.
We make Alpha Progression. This guide explains what you get with Pro, who is likely to benefit, and how trials, payments, cancellation, and refunds work. For instructions on using the app, see the complete Alpha Progression guide.
Feature and pricing information checked in September 2026. Your local checkout shows the price, trial eligibility, and renewal terms for your purchase.
Is Alpha Progression Pro worth it for you?
The value of Pro depends on which training decisions and tasks you want the app to help with. You can use the features independently: having your own program does not prevent you from using progression recommendations, and using a generated plan does not require you to enable advanced programming options.
| Your situation | Where Pro can help | When free may be enough |
|---|---|---|
| You want help getting started | Generate an editable plan for your schedule and equipment, then receive weight and rep recommendations as you build an exercise history. | You already have a program and are comfortable choosing your own weights and reps. |
| You already follow your own program | Use progression recommendations, charts, and workout calculators with a manually created plan. | You mainly want to record sets and review previous workouts. |
| You want more control over your training | Use RIR targets, periodization, deloads, and charts to organize and review a training block. | Your current approach works without those additional tools. |
| You train in different places | Keep separate gym profiles with their own equipment and available weights. | A single gym setup covers your training. |

What does Alpha Progression Pro include?
Personalized plan generator
The plan generator creates a complete training plan around your experience, goal, schedule, equipment, and muscle priorities. Its output includes the split, exercises, their distribution across workouts, sets, repetition targets, and dropsets. You can also include RIR targets, periodization, and a deload.
For example, you might want three 45-minute sessions using your home gym, with extra emphasis on your shoulders. Those choices give the generator the constraints and priorities for your plan. You can then inspect the result and edit exercises, sets, targets, or the order of your workouts.
This is useful both when you want the app to handle your programming and when you want a starting point to customize. The plan remains editable throughout your training.
Standalone workout generator
Pro can also generate a single workout when you do not need a full plan. This can be useful while traveling, training with a friend, or fitting in an extra session.
Choose a full-body, upper-body, or lower-body workout and optionally narrow its focus. Alternatively, let Alpha Progression select a suitable focus based on what you have trained recently. The workout uses the equipment available in your active gym profile.
Progression recommendations
Progression recommendations help you decide what to attempt in each working set. Alpha Progression uses your previous exercise performance, the sets already completed in the current workout, and the planned set to recommend a specific weight and number of reps. If you enable RIR, it can also provide an effort target.
The recommendations account for your available weights. If the next dumbbell is a large jump, the app can recommend more reps at your current weight before suggesting the heavier one. Recommended reps can therefore differ from the plan's rep target.
Recommendations can also decrease after a weaker performance. The system does not assume that every workout must be better than the last.
You can use this feature with generated plans, your own plans, and standalone workouts. Exercise history carries across them. The first time you perform an exercise, there is no previous result to base a recommendation on; logging it gives the app history to use next time.
For someone who already knows which exercises to perform, this guidance can be the main reason to choose Pro.
Charts and exercise analytics
Pro adds charts for exercise performance, strength, volume, sets per muscle, workout frequency, bodyweight, and body measurements. You can inspect individual exercises or take a broader view of your training.
For example, you can check whether your bench press has improved over several months or whether you have actually increased the number of sets you perform for a priority muscle. Exercise pages can also show a configurable chart that you can add to your Analytics section.
Charts are particularly useful when individual workouts feel inconsistent and you want to see the longer-term trend.
Multiple gym profiles
Each gym profile stores its own equipment and available weights. Pro lets you create and switch between several profiles, such as a commercial gym, a home gym, and a gym you use while traveling.
That saves repeated setup and helps the generators and progression recommendations reflect the equipment in front of you. A dumbbell rack with 2 kg increments can be configured separately from one with 2.5 kg increments.
RIR tracking and targets
RIR means Reps in Reserve: an estimate of how many additional clean repetitions you could have completed before failure. Pro lets you record RIR and use RIR targets in your training.
This adds context to your performance. Completing ten reps with several more possible is different from completing ten reps at your limit.
RIR is optional. You can leave it disabled and still receive weight and repetition recommendations.
Periodization and deloads
Periodization lets a plan's sets, repetition targets, dropsets, and optional RIR targets vary across weeks. A deload provides an easier phase or workout, with progression recommendations adjusted accordingly.
These tools help you organize a training block when you want more structure over time. The planned weekly changes are separate from the recommendations that respond to your logged performance during workouts.
They are optional: Pro also works with a straightforward plan that keeps the same structure each week. You can use advanced settings with manually created plans as well as generated plans.
Warm-up calculator
The warm-up calculator suggests sets based on the exercise, your working weight, rep target, available weights, and experience. You can customize the number and size of warm-up sets, including different settings for muscles you have already trained during the workout.
This reduces the preparation you have to calculate yourself before your working sets. Warm-up suggestions can be copied into the workout notes; they are not logged like normal working sets.
Plate calculator
The plate calculator shows which plates to load to reach a target weight, using your configured bar and available plates. If the exact target is unavailable, it shows the next lower achievable weight.
It is useful when a recommendation changes the load and you want to see the plate combination quickly.
Exercise evaluations
Exercise evaluations explain characteristics relevant to muscle building, including range of motion and stability. They help you compare exercise choices and understand what a movement offers for its target muscle.
The exercise videos and technique instructions are already included in the free version. Pro adds this extra layer of evaluation to relevant exercises.
Custom exercise images
Pro lets you add images from your camera or photo library to custom exercises, or copy an existing exercise's image. The image appears in plans, workouts, and the exercise database.
This can make an unusual machine or personal exercise variation easier to recognize in your workout. You can create custom exercises without Pro; the image option is the additional feature.
How much does Alpha Progression Pro cost?
At standard US pricing, Alpha Progression Pro costs $12.99 per month or $79.99 per year. Both plans include the same Pro features.
| Plan | Standard US price | Billing | Free trial |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $12.99 per month | One month paid at a time | No |
| Yearly | $79.99 per year | One year paid at a time | 14 days for eligible new customers |
The yearly price works out to approximately $6.67 per month, but the yearly plan is billed as one annual payment. It is not paid in monthly installments.
At these prices, twelve monthly payments total $155.88. The yearly plan costs $75.89 less for a full year, a saving of approximately 49%. Monthly can still make sense if you only want Pro for a short period or prefer a smaller initial commitment.
Prices can vary by country, currency, purchase channel, taxes, and promotion. Check the current subscription offers and the price shown before confirming your purchase. If an offer discounts your first billing period, check the renewal price as well.
How does the 14-day free trial work?
Eligible new customers choosing the yearly Alpha Progression Pro plan receive a 14-day trial with access to all Pro features. The monthly plan does not include the trial. The permanent free version remains available if you do not want to start a subscription.
Starting the trial also starts a subscription that will become paid unless you cancel in time. After the trial, your purchase provider charges the annual price shown when you subscribed. The subscription then renews automatically unless canceled.
You can subscribe through the Alpha Progression website, Apple's App Store, or Google Play. Trial eligibility and the relevant dates appear in the purchase flow. A previous trial or subscription may mean you are no longer eligible.
To avoid the first charge, cancel through the provider you used before its cancellation deadline. For App Store trials, Apple advises canceling at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Check your subscription screen for the applicable dates and status.
What should you test during the trial?
Use the trial to see whether Pro improves the decisions and tasks you face in your normal training:
- Generate a plan with your actual equipment, schedule, and priorities, then see how easily you can customize it.
- Log your workouts accurately and repeat exercises so progression recommendations have previous performance to use.
- Try charts with your existing data, or explore the views you want to build up over time.
- Use the calculators or additional gym profiles if they fit your routine.
Fourteen days can help you assess the app's workflow and guidance. Longer-term progress charts will naturally become more informative as you accumulate training history.
Where can you subscribe and manage billing?
Alpha Progression Pro is available through our website, the App Store, and Google Play. Your purchase channel determines where you manage billing, even if you later use the app on a different device.
| Where you subscribed | Manage or cancel | Switch monthly/yearly plans | Request a refund |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alpha Progression website | Use Update subscription to receive a customer-portal link by email. | Contact our support team. | Contact our support team. |
| Apple App Store | Open your Apple Account's subscription settings and select Alpha Progression. | Open the subscription and choose from the available plans. | Request a refund through Apple. If Apple declines, contact us. |
| Google Play | Open Google Play's Payments & subscriptions section, then Subscriptions, and select Alpha Progression. | Contact our support team. | Contact our support team. |
For a website purchase, use the same email address for your subscription and your Alpha Progression account. You can subscribe before creating the account, provided the email addresses match when you sign up.
Discount-code entry is available on the website. If you have a code, check its effect on the first payment and renewal price before confirming.
Switching phones or operating systems
Your training data and Pro subscription status can sync across iOS and Android through your Alpha Progression account. Sign in to the same account on your new device. You do not need a second subscription simply because you switch phones.
Billing stays with the original purchase provider. For example, an App Store subscription is still managed through Apple after you move to an Android phone.
How do cancellation and refunds work?
Canceling a subscription
Canceling Alpha Progression Pro stops future renewal. For a paid subscription, you keep Pro access until the end of the paid period. Canceling does not itself request a refund of a payment already made.
Use the purchase-channel table above to find the correct place to cancel. Website subscribers receive a portal link through Update subscription. App Store and Google Play subscribers cancel through the relevant store.
Check the confirmation and the displayed expiration or renewal status after completing cancellation. For a trial, follow the purchase provider's deadline and check the access end date it displays.
What remains available after Pro expires?
After Pro expires, you can continue using Alpha Progression's permanent free features, including workout logging, manually created plans, exercise videos, and CSV export.
The following restrictions apply:
- Generated training: starting workouts from generated plans or generated standalone workouts requires an active Pro subscription.
- Manual training: manually created plans and standalone workouts remain usable. Pro-only settings, such as RIR or a deload, are disabled when starting those workouts.
- Gym profiles: additional gyms remain saved, but only the currently active gym can be used without Pro.
- Other Pro tools: progression recommendations, charts, and the other paid features require Pro access.
In particular, generating a plan during a trial does not provide permanent free access to train with that generated plan after Pro expires.
Our full-refund policy
We give a 100% refund whenever you request one. This includes payments after a free trial and subscription renewals. If you do not want to keep Pro or a payment was unexpected, you can ask for your money back.
If you want to request a refund for a website or Google Play purchase, email info@alphaprogression.com. Include the email address associated with your account and the purchase provider so we can identify the payment.
For an App Store purchase, first use reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with the Apple Account used for the purchase. Choose the refund-request option, select the reason and purchase, and submit the request. Apple reviews requests submitted through its system. If Apple declines your request, email info@alphaprogression.com so we can arrange your full refund.
If a charge was unexpected, you cannot find your subscription, or your payment has not unlocked Pro, please get in touch. We can help investigate the issue and explain the relevant options. For a missing subscription, checking the receipt is a useful first step because it identifies the purchase provider and account used.
What should you know before choosing Pro?
Pro is designed around strength and muscle-building training on iOS and Android. Some practical details may affect whether it fits your routine:
- Most training features work offline. Generating a plan or standalone workout requires an internet connection.
- There is currently no dedicated Apple Watch or Wear OS app. The phone apps provide live workout information through iOS Live Activities and Android live notifications.
- There is currently no web-based workout logger or workout-history import feature. Consider this if browser use or transferring a large history from another app is essential to you.
For a walkthrough of the app, use the complete Alpha Progression guide. To compare options, see our strength training app comparison.
